Class Placement - Students are placed in classes according to their ability, age attitude and achievement. We use a graded system of body placement and technique that monitors progress properly. Students are advanced as their progress requires and are not held back because of age or size. The student not being able to keep up with the class will be reassigned to a more suitable class for their ability. Class length increases as a student's age, interest, vocabulary and ability develop.
Students are expected to come to class prepared to dance. This means dressed properly in their black leotard and proper tights and correct shoes . A students hair must be pulled back into a neat and secure bun. A Student who is not prepared is considered to be behaving disrespectfully to the teacher, the art and the rest of the class. Correct dance attire and grooming are as much a part of dance education as learning the steps and technique themselves. The dress code will be strictly enforced. The dance center holds the right not to allow a student to enter class if he or she is not properly attired from head to toe. (see New Season information for our dress code)
| These classes are offered to students 7 years of age and up (Irish Step can be started at age 5). Students are placed based on age as well as experience and technique level. As a student progresses the length of class increases. | |
| Ballet | The dance center teaches classical ballet. Mainly the Cecchetti method of ballet technique. The Cecchitti technique is known for graceful, flowing and precise movement. Ballet is the core of all dance training and it is highly recommended that all students take ballet. |
| Jazz | Jazz is the calibration of many different styles of dance both social and concert dance styles. Jazz includes Cakewalk, Black Bottom Charleston, jitter bug, Boogie Woogie, Swing & Lindy Hop, Hip Hop and Broadway. Jazz is influenced by acro, ballet, lyrical, contemporary, and hip hop. |
| Tap | Tap is a form of dance where sound is created by metal plates that are attached to the ball and heel of the shoe, thus creating a percussion sound. Tap dancers are considered musicians. |
| Irish Step | Irish is a traditional dance originating in Ireland. Irish Dancers have a stiff upper body and quick precise movements the their feet. |
| Modern | Modern is focused in creative self expression. It's a more relaxed free style of dance, emotion and mood are used. |
